Where Monta Vista and Homestead Graduates Go to College
Updated: 2 days ago
Every FUHSD high school publishes a School Profile that goes out with each student's college applications. Here is what the latest profiles from Monta Vista and Homestead say about our graduates.
When a Monta Vista or Homestead senior applies to college, their counselor sends a two-page document along with the transcript. It's called the School Profile. It tells admissions officers how our schools grade, which advanced courses are offered, and how students have done. It also reports where the previous year's graduates enrolled.
These profiles are public, but few families ever see them. Below is what the 2025–26 profiles say, with links to the originals at the end.
Where the Class of 2025 went

At Monta Vista, 83% of the Class of 2025 enrolled at a four-year college: 31% at a University of California campus, 10% at a Cal State campus, and 38% at colleges outside California. Another 14% started at a community college.
At Homestead, 66% enrolled at a four-year college: 25% at a UC, 15% at a Cal State, and 31% out of state. Another 26% started at a community college. Community college is a strong path in our area. De Anza and Foothill send many students on to UC through transfer agreements.
These numbers match the University of California's own records. In fall 2025, 91% of Monta Vista applicants and 80% of Homestead applicants were admitted to at least one UC campus, and 138 Monta Vista graduates and 121 Homestead graduates enrolled at a UC.
About a third of both graduating classes leave California for college. UC admissions data never shows those students, so it is only part of the picture.
A steady record at Homestead

Homestead posts several years of profiles online. Over the last three graduating classes, the share of graduates enrolling at a UC rose each year, from 17% (Class of 2023) to 21% (Class of 2024) to 25% (Class of 2025). Out-of-state enrollment has stayed at roughly a third of the class. Monta Vista currently posts only its latest profile.
Where recent graduates are studying
Both profiles list colleges where recent graduates enrolled beyond the UC and Cal State systems. Colleges on both schools' lists include:
Brown, Carnegie Mellon, Cornell, Dartmouth, Emory, Georgia Tech, Harvard, MIT, New York University, Northeastern, Purdue, Rice, Rhode Island School of Design, Stanford, Tufts, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, the University of Michigan, the University of Pennsylvania, USC, UT Austin, the University of Washington, Washington University in St. Louis, and Santa Clara University.
Homestead's list also includes Columbia, Duke, Johns Hopkins, the University of Chicago, Vanderbilt, Georgetown, Pomona, Swarthmore and Harvey Mudd. Monta Vista's list also includes Barnard, UNC Chapel Hill, the U.S. Air Force Academy, and international universities such as Waterloo, Waseda and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
Academic snapshot

Students at both schools take Advanced Placement courses in large numbers, and they score well. Monta Vista students took 3,006 AP exams in spring 2025, and half of the scores were 5s, the highest possible. Homestead students took 2,218 exams, and 48% scored 5. Monta Vista has 28 National Merit Semifinalists in the Class of 2026 and Homestead has 21.
How FUHSD grades

Colleges read our transcripts with a few district policies in mind, and every profile spells them out:
- Grades are on a 4.0 scale with no plus or minus, and honors and AP classes earn no extra grade points. A 4.0 at FUHSD is an unweighted 4.0.
- Honors and AP classes are open to any student who wants to take them.
- Because of budget limits, students can generally take only one course per subject area each year.
About four in ten students in the Class of 2026 at both schools held an unweighted GPA of 3.75 or higher.
What this means for families
Our students are prepared, and colleges across the country recognize it. The profiles also show where our schools can improve. Monta Vista has one counselor for every 395 students and Homestead has one for every 484, far more than the American School Counselor Association's recommended 250. College guidance is one of the most valuable things a high school provides, and counselor capacity is something the school board can act on.
